More than 5,000 pumpkins are lighting the way along a quarter-mile trail at Iroquois Park as a longtime Louisville Halloween tradition returns with a new name. The attraction, now called Jack's Lantern Trail, draws visitors into the wooded park after dark for a family friendly walk past carved and illuminated pumpkins arranged along the path.
Organizers say the event has become a seasonal staple for the region, offering a calm, outdoor alternative to haunted houses and other Halloween entertainment. The trail is designed to be accessible to children and adults alike, with the pumpkins lit each evening throughout the run.
The return of the tradition has not come without friction. Some nearby business owners have raised concerns about traffic, parking and crowd flow around the park during peak hours, arguing that the event's popularity puts pressure on surrounding streets and commercial areas. Organizers say they are working with local officials and neighbors to manage access and reduce disruptions.
Supporters of the trail point to its economic and cultural value, noting that it brings thousands of visitors to the area and gives families a reason to spend time outdoors in the fall. For now, the pumpkins are lit, the path is open, and visitors are invited to see the display for themselves.
