A business leader has stated that Dolly Parton was supportive of an arrangement to supply weapons to Haiti's national police force. Bryan Seaver, whose company Fencebridge Strategic Risk is involved in the deal, said the country music star backed the effort.
The arrangement is meant to strengthen the Haitian National Police as it works to counter gang violence that has destabilized large parts of the country. Seaver described Parton as encouraging of the plan, though he did not offer specifics about her role or the nature of her involvement.
The deal has drawn attention because of the unlikely connection between a major American entertainment figure and a security matter in the Caribbean nation. Details about the weapons, their value, and the timeline for delivery have not been made public.
Haiti has struggled for years with armed groups that control neighborhoods and challenge state authority. The national police have been at the center of efforts to restore order, often with limited resources and training.
Seaver's remarks place Parton in an unusual position, linking her public profile to a contentious security question. Neither Parton nor her representatives have commented publicly on the matter.
