When Anne Marie Carroll's friends started complaining about the sky-high cost of wedding videography, she saw a gap in the market rather than just a gripe session. Fresh off a layoff and looking for her next move, Carroll decided to build a business around the problem. The result is Wedding Weekender, a company that ditches the traditional, expensive videographer model. Instead, it turns wedding guests into the camera crew.
The concept is simple. Guests at a wedding are encouraged to film candid moments on their phones throughout the event. Wedding Weekender then collects that raw footage and edits it into a professional, cinematic highlight reel. The approach cuts costs for couples while delivering a more authentic, spontaneous feel than a staged production.
Carroll launched the business in 2019, and it has grown rapidly. The company is now on track to bring in $3.8 million in revenue this year. The key, Carroll says, was listening to what people actually wanted: a way to preserve the real, messy, joyful moments of their wedding day without breaking the bank. By turning every guest into a potential cinematographer, she created a service that feels more inclusive and less intrusive. The model also solves a common problem: many couples skip professional video altogether due to cost, leaving them with only static photos. Carroll's platform gives them a living memory, captured by the people who were actually there to celebrate with them.
