So many of my retired friends are bored. They spend their days watching television, playing golf, or complaining about the weather. I understand the appeal of a quiet life, but for me, the silence was deafening. That is why, at the age of 67, I started a business.
The idea did not come from a mid-life crisis or a desperate need for money. It came from a simple observation: I had decades of experience in logistics and supply chain management, and no one was using that knowledge anymore. I saw small local shops struggling to get their products to customers on time. They did not need a massive corporate solution. They needed someone who understood the practical, messy reality of getting a box from point A to point B.
My friends thought I was crazy. They asked why I would want the stress, the paperwork, and the risk. But what they saw as stress, I saw as purpose. Every day, I am learning new things. I had to figure out social media, basic website design, and digital invoicing. I meet new people constantly: bakers, potters, authors, and artists. I am not just selling a service. I am helping real people keep their dreams alive.
Retirement is often sold as the final reward. But for me, the real reward is waking up with a problem to solve. I am not just passing time. I am building something. And I have never felt more alive.
