e-Fest's 10th Year Adds Challenge From Tommie Alum's Business - Newsroom | University of St. Thomas

The University of St. Thomas is set to host its 10th annual e-Fest this spring, bringing 25 of the top undergraduate startup teams from across the country to campus for a three-day competition. Known as the nation's largest cash-prize event for student entrepreneurs, this year's milestone edition adds a new layer of realism. For the first time in the Innovation Challenge, students will tackle a business problem directly from a company founded by a University of St. Thomas alumnus.

Organizers say the shift is meant to mark the anniversary by connecting student ideas to actual market pressures. Instead of a hypothetical scenario, teams will analyze a current issue facing a real firm, then pitch their solutions to a panel of judges. The winning team takes home a significant cash award, but all participants gain exposure to the kind of strategic thinking required in a working business.

The e-Fest has grown steadily since its launch a decade ago, drawing applicants from hundreds of schools. University officials note that the event not only showcases young talent but also strengthens ties between current students and the alumni network. The alum's company, which has remained unnamed in advance materials, is expected to provide detailed data and context for the challenge.

Over the course of three days, students will also attend workshops and hear from established entrepreneurs. The competition's tenth year is seen as a testament to the university's commitment to fostering innovation, with the new real-world twist adding a fresh layer of pressure and authenticity to the event.
