A fire in West Hartford has temporarily shut down two businesses, with investigators still working to determine what sparked the blaze. Fire crews were called to the scene late Tuesday evening after reports of smoke coming from a commercial building.
When firefighters arrived, they encountered heavy smoke inside the structure. According to officials, the smoke was concentrated in a restaurant located within the building. The responding firefighters "found smoke throughout the restaurant," a department spokesperson said. The fire itself was contained to the kitchen area, but the smoke damage extended into adjacent spaces, affecting a neighboring business as well.
Both businesses are now closed while cleanup and repairs are underway. No injuries were reported, and all occupants evacuated safely before crews arrived. The fire department's investigation unit is looking into the cause, but officials have not yet released any findings. They are examining electrical systems and the restaurant's cooking equipment as potential sources.
The building owner is working with insurance adjusters and contractors to assess the full extent of the damage. It remains unclear how long the closures will last. Local officials have urged residents and customers to avoid the area while work continues. The fire marshal's office is expected to provide an update once the investigation is complete.
