With just one FIFA World Cup match left in Seattle, business owners in the Chinatown-International District are making a final push to draw global soccer fans into the neighborhood. A rally is planned at Hing Hay Park this weekend, aimed at turning the area into a pregame destination for visitors.
The event comes as many local shops and restaurants report weaker-than-expected sales during the tournament. Despite the city's excitement over hosting matches, foot traffic in the CID has not matched the surge seen in other parts of Seattle. Organizers hope the rally will change that by offering live entertainment, food specials, and a welcoming atmosphere for international crowds.
"We want people to know this neighborhood is part of the World Cup experience," said one local merchant. "We have the food, the culture, and the energy. We just need the visitors to find us."
The rally will feature music, cultural performances, and promotions from nearby businesses. Some streets around Hing Hay Park will be closed to vehicles to create a pedestrian-friendly zone. The event is scheduled to run for several hours before the final match kicks off.
For many in the district, this is a last chance to capture some of the economic boost that other areas have already enjoyed. While the World Cup has brought global attention to Seattle, the CID has not seen the same level of spillover. Business owners are hoping the rally will finally bring the crowds through their doors.
