Police are investigating a break-in at Brown Sugar Bakery on the South Side that occurred early Wednesday morning. According to authorities, at least one suspect forced entry into the popular bakery, and during the incident, a window of the business next door was also damaged.
Officers responded to the scene after an alarm was triggered. They discovered that the front door of Brown Sugar Bakery had been pried open. Investigators believe the burglars targeted cash from the register, though a full inventory of stolen items is still being completed. The neighboring business, which was not identified by police, sustained a shattered window but no signs of entry.
No arrests have been made yet. Police are reviewing surveillance footage from the area to identify the suspects. The owner of Brown Sugar Bakery, known for its signature pastries and community presence, has not released a public statement but is cooperating with the investigation. The incident has rattled local business owners, who say they are growing tired of property crimes in the area. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Chicago Police Department.
