nVent Electric has agreed to buy Maverick Power, a Texas based company, for about 1.75 billion dollars. The deal marks the ninth acquisition for nVent since it split from Pentair back in 2018, and it shows how hard the company is leaning into the data center boom.
Maverick Power makes electrical gear like switchgear, busway, and other power distribution equipment. That fits right into what nVent has been building up, especially as hyperscale data centers need more and more reliable power delivery. The purchase is expected to close in the second half of this year, pending regulatory approval.
nVent's chief executive said the deal strengthens their position in the fast growing data center market, where demand for power infrastructure has been climbing sharply. The company has been on a buying streak, snapping up smaller firms that add technology or manufacturing capacity. Maverick Power, based in the Dallas area, brings a solid customer base and a track record of quick delivery times.
The price tag is a big one for nVent, but the company says it will help boost earnings per share within the first year after closing. They plan to fund the deal with cash and debt. Shares of nVent dipped slightly in early trading after the announcement, which is common after a large acquisition.
For nVent, this is about more than just adding revenue. The company wants to be a one stop shop for power management in data centers, from the utility connection down to the server racks. Maverick's products slot into that plan, especially for customers who need custom switchgear built to tight specs. The deal also gives nVent more manufacturing floor space in the U.S., which helps with supply chain worries.
Analysts see the move as a logical step, though some note that nVent is paying a premium. The company's leadership argues that the growth in data center spending justifies the price, pointing to long term contracts and a backlog of orders at Maverick. With this purchase, nVent is betting that the demand for computing power will keep climbing for years, and they want to be ready to supply the gear that makes it work.
